These resources for local government elected members and local authority members have been recorded in 18 Aboriginal languages to improve access to information and training.

These two maps summarise the key skills and information needed for local government elected members in regional councils. Click on each topic area on the map for a short video presentation.

Elected Member Training Map 1 – Setting the context covers topics like the legislative framework, the role of the Department and elected member responsibilities and relationships.

Elected Member Training Map 2 – Council business covers topics like financial management, informed decision-making and council meetings.

The Department is committed to developing elected member resources in non-written and multi-media formats to support improved access to local government information. Conflict of interest

Conflicts of interest are important for all council members, local authority members and council committee members to understand when making decisions and recommendations. Under the Local Government Act 2008, it is a requirement for members to disclose if they have a conflict of interest and not participate in discussions or decisions if they have a conflict. The information sheet below outlines what a conflict of interest means, what to do if a member has a conflict of interest and some examples of possible conflicts.
