Tenant super excited about her brand new home

The tenant of a new property secured as part of the department’s social housing head-leasing program already has big plans for her unit.

“I want to grow some herbs in my garden for cooking.

“I can also walk into town and save money on petrol,” she said.

The social housing head-leasing program aims to increase the number of properties available to low income Territorians and their families.

The department will work with developers to lease appropriate properties for terms of up to 10 years, with an option to extend. The department will then sub-let the property to eligible tenants.

For the tenant, it’s been the perfect fit.

“I love it … there’s new everything,” she said.

“It’s got a garage where I can keep my car safe, that’s important.

“It’s a really nice house, I really like it.

“I just want to say thank you (to the department), I get a new home and I’m really happy with that.”
