Redevelopment of John Stokes Square
The public housing complex at 47 Progress Drive, John Stokes Square, will be redeveloped in 2019.
The complex, built in 1977, is ageing and has been identified for redevelopment through the Northern Territory Planning Commission’s Darwin Mid Suburbs Area Plan.
The redevelopment will include:
- a 24-hour police station
- 75 new one and two bedroom public housing units for seniors and people with disabilities
- pedestrian linkages from Nightcliff Village to Nightcliff Shopping Centre
- community and green space
- space for non-government organisations to provide support to public housing tenants.
A tender for demolition has been released with demolition expected to begin by late May 2019.
The department is working with tenants of John Stokes Square to move them to other public housing prior to demolition.
If you have any questions about the development, please call Nathan Mappas on 8999 7960.
