New social housing tenant feels like she’s hit the jackpot

The new tenant of a brand new unit secured as part of the department’s social housing head-leasing program feels like she’s “won the lottery” after moving in last month.

The program aims to increase the number of social housing properties available to low income Territorians and their families.

The tenant moved into her unit earlier this month and was delighted by the place’s fresh look and modern facilities.

“It was amazing, I never thought I’d be so lucky to get such a nice unit,” she said.

“I just want to thank the department for everything they’ve done, I really appreciate it.”

“Everything in the place is really good … I felt like I’d won the lottery.”

The tenant said she was thrilled to have an enclosed garage and a spacious kitchen and living area.

“The kitchen is big and it’s a nice open area with the living room,” she said.

“It means I can supervise my kids when I cook, it’s a lot easier for me.”

“It’s been great, it’s nice and quiet here too.”
