Congratulations to Nhulunbuy resident Hilmo Jahic who is the Pride in your Place winner for August.

Mr Jahic was nominated by Housing Officer Misty Taaka for his hard work, time and the kindness he has dedicated towards his garden, his home and his neighbours.

“Mr Jahic is in a unit complex that comprises of 12 other units.

He grows vegetables, herbs and fruits and shares them with neighbours and friends and encourages people to help themselves,” Misty said.

Mr Jahic’s green thumb has made the area look very beautiful and attracts the onlookers of others passing through.

His garden grows tomatoes, pineapples, bananas, mint, chives, oregano and parsley amongst many other herbs.

When Mr Jahic was told by Misty he was being nominated, he continued to think of others.

“I would like to win this award to let people know that they are very welcome to help themselves to the vegetables, herbs and fruits I grow,” he said.

For Mr Jahic’s prize, he will receive a certificate and has chosen a $200 Woolworths gift card.
