Emergency messaging now available in 18 different languages
In a collaborative effort by the Aboriginal Interpreter Service and the Northern Territory Emergency Service, there is now emergency messaging available in 18 different Aborginal languages.
Around 35 000 Territorians who don’t speak English as a first language, will now have access to safety messages and information in their own native language in the event of natural disasters including fire, flood, cyclone or storm.
The Aborginal languages include:
- Eastern/Central Arrernte
- Western Arrarnta
- East Side Kriol
- West Side Kriol
- Murrinh Patha
- Yolngu Matha
