Local Authorities help to build communities

Through our grants program, we provide more than $5 million each year to Local Authorities for projects that make a difference to the lives of people living in communities throughout the NT.

Maningrida and Pirlangimpi have utilised the program.

The Maningrida Local Authority (West Arnhem Regional Council) is focussed on beautification works around the community and has budgeted $70 000 towards the installation of rubbish bin stands throughout the town.

By partnering with the Bawananga Aboriginal Corporation and taking on 20 Community Development Program (CDP) participants to work alongside council workers, the Maningrida Local Authority is happy to report the project has provided workers with new skills and has achieved a 90 per cent attendance rate.

In Pirlangimpi a new barbecue and shade area has been constructed taking the total of shade and barbecue areas in the community up to three.

Construction was coordinated by the local Alcohol Management Group and built by CDP participants.
