Elected member resources

Aboriginal language audio resources

These resources for local government elected members and local authority members have been recorded in 18 Aboriginal languages to improve access to information and training.

Elected member training videos

These two maps summarise the key skills and information needed for local government elected members in regional councils. Click on each topic area on the map for a short video presentation.

Elected Member Training Map 1 – Setting the context covers topics like the legislative framework, the role of the Department and elected member responsibilities and relationships.

Elected Member Training Map 2 – Council business covers topics like financial management, informed decision-making and council meetings.

The Department is committed to developing elected member resources in non-written and multi-media formats to support improved access to local government information. Please contact localgovernment.dlghcd@nt.gov.au with feedback on how we can continue to develop and improve multimedia and Aboriginal language resources.

Conflict of interest

Conflict of interest is a key topic of the Local Government Act 2019. The Act defines different types of conflicts of interest to help understanding of the issue and to allow council members to identify if they may be in a conflict of interest situation.
