Community Housing Strategy

The Northern Territory Government is developing an urban Community Housing Strategy (the Strategy) for the Northern Territory.

The Strategy will identify approaches to support the growth of the Community Housing sector and inform the transfer of 750 urban public dwellings to the Community Housing sector.

The first step towards developing the Strategy involved the release of a Request for Information (RFI) which closed in August 2017. The RFI process allowed organisations and stakeholders to provide innovative policy ideas for consideration by government. This process also enabled early input from organisations and provided an opportunity to influence the development of the Strategy at its early stage.

KPMG has been engaged by the Department to undertake an independent economic modelling process that will inform the development of the Strategy. KPMG has undertaken targeted engagement with various community housing sector organisations (including inter-jurisdictional government and community housing sector stakeholders) as part of this process.

Information attained through the RFI process, targeted engagement, economic modelling and learnings from other states will be used to inform the development of the Strategy.

The Department will continue to work collaboratively with the community housing sector in developing the Strategy.
